Pat M.'s Retirement Party, November 18, 2006

I went to work on Monday, November 20, 2006 and Ms. Pat M. was not there. It was expected because last Saturday was her last day with the Berkeley Public Library. She retired after twenty four years of service. The Art and Music department on this gray morning seemed empty and cold without her. She was a very well-rounded and well-loved boss, unlike my previous ones, who were unfair, petty and vicious. Pat was a kind, fair, down-to-earth, straightforward, tough and yet gentle person. It was regrettable that I did not know and work with her long enough -- only from July to November of this year.

About eighty to a hundred people came to Pat's retirement party. There were live music, singing, dancing, lots of talking, laughing and hugging, food and wine. I had a feeling that most of us went home that night with the mixed glad-sad-feelings. Glad that Pat is finally have more time to enjoy and play the Jazz music that she loves. Sad to lose a very, very great boss and friend. Farewell Ms. Pat M., I wish you good health, and happiness with your partner, friends and music. Your A & M Crew loves you and misses you dearly.

Beginning Origami Class at the Elephant Pharmacy, Nov. 18, 2006

This was my third sessions teaching origami at the Elephant Pharmacy in Berkeley. There were eighteen people in the class; seventeen adults and one child. The session went very well and everyone went home with his/her creations. My son, Hong-Bao was my personal photographer of the day, and these are the pictures that he took. It was his first time ever using the camera, and I am very grateful for his effort. Thank you Bao.

Nga,

First of all, I really enjoyed learning Origami from you yesterday.
And I could tell how much people appreciated your teaching.
Indeed there was lots of fun. How often are you planning to teach?
I want to take your class regularly.
