How Berkeley Can You Be Parade-September 17, 2006

This year, Berkeley seemed to lose its steam on the political front. There were just a "Yes on A" for Berkeley schools, and a "Vote for Mayor Tom Bates" car, and that was it. The attraction of the whole parade seemed to be the Arty-whacky-cars. The star of the show obviously was the beautiful sport-gargoyle-car. It got lots of "Ooh! and Aah!" and clappings from spectators. There were only three naked guys (no gals) this time. And luckily for them, the weather was warm and sunny unlike previous years. It was nice to have a day like this for people to come out to talk, play music, dance, make friends, enjoy foods, sell things or just hang around and about.

The Pink Feathers.

My Self-Portrait.

The PinkGuy on a unicycle is a very familiar face around Berkeley.

Chickens on stilts.

The three naked guys.

The motor-couch.

I really like these cupcakes. They are so cute! They can twirl around and around.

The bellydancers.

The Toyota ad flew overhead.

The Greendress guy. I wonder if he wears anything underneath?

Anh-Vu and Hong-Bao.

People do like to look inside of the car.

Detail on the hood.

What is this man doing? Bowing to spectators?

Wow! A sculpture on wheels. Unlike other cars which found objects were glued or piled up onto the old cars, the owner of this car seemed to buid it from cratch- small retangular metals piece by piece. Magnificent!

This gargoyle-car really steals the whole show.

What do you call this thing?

A recycled pen-&-marker car and the bicycle-cops.

The Berkeley police were always present.

The banana car seemed to pop out one of Richard Scarry's books.

I love this giant banana.
