Beginning Origami for Kids at the Elephant Pharmacy, July 13, 2006

The Flyer

The Ad in The Berkeley Daily Planet, July 4-6, 06
In April 30, 2006, at the First Annual Children's Day, I volunteered to teach children and adults at the Berkeley Public Library how to do origami. My origami table was a big hit. The children's library supervisor then referred me to a community program cordinator from the Elephant Pharmacy, Ms. Bonnie S.. She called and offered me two sessions at the store on Shattuck Avenue. This is my first origami class, and I feel privileged and honored to get such an offer. I used to worked for Oakland and Berkeley schools, and I like to teach kids. I didn't know how much I missed the interaction, fun, hands-on activities with the children until that First Annual Children's Day at BPL. I also like to introduce kids and adults to the art of folding and was grateful to have this opportunity. The ad says Beginning Origami for Kids, but about half of the class were adults. They were all so attentive, eager to learn, and we had so much fun. I hope to see more people at my second session on July 27, 06 at 1:30-2:30.

Chao di Nga,
I've been making four pointed star all weekend long. I am hoping to learn much more about Origami to help me in elementary educ. work. Do you have a suggestion for a useful book that includes basic folds, designs and instruction? I'd like to have a book with easily photocopiable pictures that I can use to assist in instructing 3rd graders. Thank you again and hope you are well.

Hello Nga,
How are you? Just want to say thanks again for teaching at Elephant this summer. We enjoyed having you on the schedule and heard positive feedback about your classes, including customer requests to have you continue teaching at Elephant. Would you be interested in teaching with us again?
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Cheer!

Hi David,
Thank you for coming to my class. Your folding was very neat, and it was a pleasure to have you in class. Books that I often use are: Origami for Fun by Toshie Takahama, Fun with Paper Folding-Origami, Origami for Beginners-The Creative World of Paperfolding by Florence Temko.
Chao,
Hello Bonnie,
Thank you for inviting me back to teach at your store. I love to introduce and teach the art of paperfolding to more people.
