Children's Day at BPL

April 30, 2006 marked the first Children's Day/Book Day in Berkeley. It was such a beautiful, and warm day after so many weeks of wind, cold, and rain. I had an origami table there to show children and interested adults how to fold. I showed them how to fold a box, a balloon, and a crane; it took us an hour to do just a few things. I wished that I had more time to show people more folds, but I had to run to the first Berkeley International Food Festival in West Berkeley where the library had a table (and that was why I wore my traditional Vietnamese dress.) Some people asked me: "Do you have a web site? Do you teach a class somewhere? Could you show us how to do the crane again?" It was such fun to share what I like to a bunch of origami enthusiasts. I hope to do it again someday. My two sons - Anh Vu and Hong Bao - were there too. Bao was busy checking out books and DVDs, and Anh Vu was busy taking pictures.

THANK YOU NOTES:

Dear Nga,
Thank you so much for everything you did to help us have such a successful first "DIA" (Children's Day/Book Day) program. The origami table you set up in the beginning was so crowded with happy, engaged children (and adults)-and how wonderful that you left the materials and other people were able to carry on after you left. It was a wonderful day and you were a wonderful part of it.

Dear Nga,
Thank you so much for taking the time on such a busy and gorgeous day to help us out for Children's Day/Book Day. The Origami table was a fabulous hit! It meant a lot to have people help out on that day-not only from the community, but from other library departments as well. You and all the other people who came together to make the day happen were a big part of the positive feelings that people left the program with . Thank you again.
Erica, Alan, and Elizabeth

I would like to thank everyone involved for setting up the table, giving us a supply of origami paper, displaying the origami books, and giving us chairs and scissors to make the occasion a succesful and fun day.
