Berkeley Kite Festival, July 29, 2006

Every year at the end of July, Berkelely holds its Kite Festival which draws a lot of people. I like the Kite Festival because it is fun to see all those beautiful, colorful, and giant kites. These huge kites are about 25 feet across and a 100 feet long. There are cute, little kites too, and I like them all. The weather is just right, windy, and the sky is blue with fluffy white clouds.

The Program

This park used to be a garbage dump.

There are food stands.

And of course there are toilet stalls.

There are people who just sit and watch.

And others who are real professonal kite flyers, who can control three kites with long tails-- move, twist, and dip these kites without tangling them up.

Are these kites or balloons?

Thanks for your blog! I came across it because I had a veggie cuon lunch yesterday, and was looking for recipes--not knowing what I was going to get lucky enough to find!
I made a comment on your last post (Goi Cuon-Shrimp Roll, Feb. posting); I also shared your blog with my best friend. So now there are two more people in Seattle who understand your home country is Viet Nam, and that we do not live on Pugetsound.
We both truly enjoyed your blog--looking forward to more.
Sincerely,
Melanie Lane
