Origami Earrings Workshop at the BPL-Central, June 23, 2007

This is my Sao Mai (Lucky Star) Earring Workshop at the library. About twenty people came to the workshop on this beautiful Saturday to create something small and pretty. It was a very fun and productive afternoon for all of us who were there.

My earring display in Art & Music department at the library.

With Lynn M. , my A&M boss. She and everybody at A&M were very supportive in helping with my program,(Thank you!). She even wore a pair of the lucky star earrings she bought from me.

Introduction to the Sao Mai fold.

For a copy of Sao Mai fold, please go to my posting Origami Earrings-The Star and The Bell.

This man was a very fast learner. His folds were neat and he made several perfect stars. This is a tiny fold (about 3/4 of an inch) compare to his big hands and he did it without difficulty.

Turn stars into earrings.

This young lady already knew how to make the stars, but it was her first time turning them into earrings. She and others were very thrilled and proud to have made the earrings themselves.

As usual Bao was only interested in comic books and nothing else.

These pictures were taken by Anh-Vu Doan.

Thanks, Nga, for the pictures! That was a fun event and your son did a great job photographing.

See you soon,

Thanks, Nga, for your email. I have been sick, but now I am better and will tell you all about my earring experience. I worked on making the earrings from your instructions that afternoon - I produced a lumpy looking thing, however, it looked enough like a star that I knew I was going in the right direction. Later that afternoon, Stacey M. came up with her daughter and they showed us all their earrings. Because I had been working on one myself, I was able to ask the right questions - most important was that Stacey told me to start with a very short end and a long one. I had starting making the first fold from the very middle of the strip of paper, and then I didn't know what to do with the long strip left over. Anyway, she also told me to keep following the strip and folding it in the way it seems to want to turn. SO - now I'm looking forward to beautiful earrings for my family for Christmas presents! Thank you so much!
