Taking Care of Art & Music Department at BPL

I like to improve the look of the place where I work. After all you're representing image of your department: if the place looks pleasant, beautiful and clean, employees are helpful, friendly and professional, then people will learn to appreciate it and there will be less tensions and troubles for us to deal with.

During and after my shift, everything has to be in order and straightened up - no messes on the floor, no books, CDs, and magazines left on the tables or shelves for the following day, or for the next workers to clean up. Chairs and trucks are neatly lined-up.

I designed this Welcome sign for the department on my own initiative.

I brought potted plants and bring in some cut flowers from my garden whenever I can.

Flowers on the Art & Music desk.

The front of a floor plan sign by the entrance to Art & Music department.

Floor plan sign in the back. I cut out a poster and put it behind the sign to make it look better.

The Songbook Sign, before...

...and after.

Bulletin board by the elevator. I don't think the colorful background papers were needed. They would make the board look too busy and cramped. Plus the department will save paper, time and money in the long run.

The Music Bulletin Board with the blue and green paper background. Before...

...And after.

The Theatre Bulletin Board with red and black paper background. Before...

...And after.

The Dance Bulletin Board with shiny pink paper background. Before...

...And after.

The Film Bulletin Board with white paper background. Before...

...And after.

Big posters have to go together in term of shapes and colors and at the right place.

I made this sign and placed a re-shelving truck right under it for patrons to leave materials that they don't want to check out. This way will save us Aides some time collecting materials from the tables and leaves uncluttered tables for the next patron to use.

I put these two posters on matted poster boards and put them in the ladies' restroom. If people see a nice and clean place, they will less likely to make a mess.

I donated these two Vietnamese folk paintings from the famous Dong Ho Village in Viet Nam for the department. (The frames are about 16 by 20 inches.) To me posters are just copies of the real art works, and Art & Music would look much better with original art works from various cultures, styles and mediums.

During my shift, book trucks have to lined-up neatly against the wall.

Chairs always are pushed in before, during and at the end of my shift.

I put these CD trucks on only one side of the aisle, so when patrons bend down to look at them, they don't block and crowd the aisle. When it comes to work, I am a detail-oriented person and a perfectionist.
