Berkeley Public Library Staff Art Show, Sept. 30-Oct.27,08

This is the third annual Staff Art Show at BPL that I helped to create in 2006. Like last year we have twenty one staff-artists in the show; a few are first timers like my boss, Vivian V. and my good friend, Juan C. Below are some of the artwork from the show:

Nga Trinh's North Branch Bookmarks, Spring '08.
Bookmarks that were collected from returned books at North Branch in 2007-2008, right after I got promoted to a 20 hour Aide there. North Branch is a very busy branch, but I like it - it's an exciting learning environment both in terms handling difficult patrons, learning to work at the desk and using the Millennium computer checkout system. Getting along nicely with my bosses and co-workers is also a blessing.

This is Vivian, my boss and her creative artwork. She used two recycled books, folded every page and turned them into two Bermuda Pantaloons. Glued both Pantaloons together and made them looked like a lamp shade. After that she glued bookmarks that she collected in between the pages. The result is a very creative and beautiful work.

Vivian V.'s Bermuda Pantaloons With North Branch's Bookmarks. Fall '08.

Debbie C.'s Knitted Hat. Beautiful choice of colors and stitches.

Joseph A.'s Pen and Ink artwork. Sorry to lose all the details in the hair, Joseph - I had to use Photoshop to take out the reflection in the glass in his hair.

Jennifer A.'s very creative purses.

Lisa H.'s Box.

Jennifer W.'s Pen and Ink work. Simple but very effective composition.

Nick M.'s Collage of a Cityscape. Nick has good sense of subjects, shapes and colors that makes him a very good collage-artist.

Isobel S.'s Ink Wash.

Martha M.'s Printing and Collage.

Barbara B.'s pottery.

From left to right: Nga Trinh's The Bees and the Bears, Embroidery Tote Bag. Debbie C's Knitted Rabbit. Barbara B.'s Blue Pottery.
I took these pictures through the glass of the displays, so there are some reflections on the works. The show lasts until Oct. 27, 08, please stop by Central Library in downtown Berkeley to view more original artwork by library staff. Hope you enjoy the show.

Thanks, Nga! You are the driving force behind this wonderful project that allows BPL staff to share something of themselves that others might not ordinarily see. I love seeing different, creative sides of my coworkers. I also think it's great for patrons to see staff as artists as well as library employees.

Thanks everyone for your your comments, and as I said before, there will be no staff show if you guys did not participate.
Thank you for sharing with your co-workers and patrons your artistic side.
