Origami Boxes

I used the recycled video, CD boxes to create these origami boxes. I also used old catalogs, calendars, twines, and found rocks to make something new out of these used materials. I now use these one-of-a-kind creations to store my collection of rocks, sea shells, and my own CDs. At work, I am known as "a recycling queen" or maybe "a pain in the butt" to some. At home, I influence my two boys, and they are quite recycling nuts themselves.

Perhaps the female's nurturing instinct in me prohibited myself for throwing things out without thinking. To me, women should be more aggresive persuader-protector-caretakers of the earth's environment and resources. They are the ones who is in control of the family's budget, and usually have a say of what to buy or spend on. They have a say in deciding whether to use "paper or plastic" or bringing their own recycled paper, plastic or canvas bags when they shop. They have a say in either to walk, take public transportion, or drive their cars. They also have a say in which car to buy. Their decisions effect the environment in which they are part of no question about that. I just hope that women should think twice when they buy things or throw things away. After all, future generations depend on them to make wise choices now.

Women give birth to all boys who will grow up to be men, and that is an undeniable, powerful fact. We should use this power to teach them fairness, compassion, and righteousness from the beginning. Recycling is one of the right thing to teach them. I am therefore, begging and appealing to women all over to practice the three R's: Reuse, Renew, and Recycle. Children learn what they see. If one person can make a difference, imaging what more than "oneness" can do.

Please do take care of yourself first so that you could take care of others, and happy recycling. As always, keep Mother Nature in your heart.
